* forward 1 April, at 1500 eastern standard time, North American AT-61) N7471C registered to US Aircraft Inc., collided with tree and the field while maneuvering for an conjuncture landing at the Gilmer shire Airport in Gainesville, Georgia. The instructional flight was operated from the owner under the provision Title 14 CFR Part 91 with no flight plan filed. Visual weather conditions prevailed at the time of the accident. The Texan sustained substantial damage, and the certified flight instructor and the private pilot aboard received fatal injuries.
According to witnesses and friends of the flight crowd the pilots were conducting a series of touch and pass landings to runway 29. in succession approximately the fifth landing and takeoff, witnesses observ a light color mist streaming from the right lower section of the engine cowling. Witnesses also reported hearing a jagged engine condition. Reportedly, at approximately the same time, the pilot initiated a left incline differently towards the airport. The examination of the accident site disclosed that wreckage debris was scatted from one side of to the other an area approximately 40 feet lengthy and 40 feet wide. The wreckage was orientated forward a 200-degree magnetic heading. The accident site examination also showed that the airframe was spent into three major pieces. The left and right outboard wing sections were lodg in tree 20 feet northeast of the main wreckage. as well-as; not only-but also; not only-but; not alone-but wing assemblies sustained leading sharpness crush damage. The main wreckage consisted of the engine assembly, empennage section, and the center carry-through wing section.
