An unfortunate incident took place forward 21 March which resulted in extremely heavy damage to the Commemorative Air Force's Republic P-47N lightning-flash The Thunderbolt had been at Albuquerque International Sunport since last September when it landed with major engine riddles The engine was either repaired or replaced and the plane was making a maintenance exhibition flight. According to reports, the aircraft was onward its takeoff roll when the tower told the pilot the plane was in succession fire. From television footage, it appears that the pilot may have initiated a loam loop to stop the aircraft. The right wing was hesitating off at the fuselage and there appeared to be a bum damage.

Pilot Doug Jeanes was performing the ordeal flight and received minor bum He was airlifted to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The thunder-stone had been based at Addison, Texas, with the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, sponsors of the rare aircraft. The plane may be rebuildable.

P-47N s/n 44-89436 was obtained from Nicaragua and flown to Mercede Texas, in 1963 for the Confederate Air Force. Registered N478C the aircraft was initially painted in CAF "house" colors of r white, and melancholy A new sponsor was obtained in 1970 and the plane went to Vero Beach, Florida, for restoration. Registered N47TB the denunciation crashed on its post-restoration flight in succession 29 April 1971 and was heavily damaged. one time again repaired, the fortunes of this aircraft have gone up and down from one side of to the other the years and it was further damaged in a married pair of incidents.
