On 6 February, Steve Hinton gave Lockheed P-38L Lightning s/n 4426996/N5596V a thorough walk-around inspection with rebuilders Bruce Lockwood and Chris copse before climbing up the aircraft's center seed-vessel ladder and starting the twin Allisons. After a thorough run-up Hinton took the P-38 aloft in a flawless manner. Orbiting from one side of to the other the airport, he undertook a series of flight proofs which included stalls, feathering and restarting each engine, and a beat-up upon the field. After a 20-minute flight, hinton landed and besides a not many minor squawks and one nasty material for burning leak, pronounced the aircraft in fine shape. Bruce and Chris immediately went to work in succession the squawks and the intention is to prepare the aircraft into perfect shape and then Steve will ferry the aircraft to Chino Airport where it will be displayed. This extremely rare WWII fighter is being exhibited for sale by Bob Hannah at (208) 454-7858
