Stored in the Aero Trader yard at Chino, California, is Cham Gill's Douglas AEW.1 Skyraider Bureau Number 127931 single in kind of 45 Skyraiders supplied to the Royal Navy in subordination to the Mutual Defense Assistance Program, the aircraft was used as an airborne early warning platform and was easily identified by dint of the huge under-fuselage radome. Carrying the Royal Navy serial of WT95 1 the aircraft operated until being withdrawn in 1960 At this time, by contractual agreement, some were scrapped while others were transferred to Sweden to operate with Svensk Flygtjarst AB as target strives This, of course, required numerous modifications including removal of the belly radome. WT951 received the Swedish civil registration of SE-EBM and derive pleasure fromed a long career, operating from 1963 in consequence of 1977 when the survivors were retired. Unfortunately, a number were scrapped on the other hand WT951 and WT987 were purchased and shipped to the United States. David Tallichet purchased WT987 (ex-SE-EBL N5469Y) and this Skyraider was state on loan with the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo of the present day York, for static display while WT951 was purchased at Aces High at North Weald. Shipped to the UK in 1985 the plane received the registration G-BMFC unless in 1990 it was shipped to Pacific Fighters at Chino for possible restoration for Erickson Air Crane. Little work was done onward the aircraft, which received the US registration N4277L and the plane was then obtained on Cham Gill.
