Also, the American military was getting in gear with orders for the P-38 Lightnings, Harpoons, Constellations, and the license-production of Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses. Lockheed's work force went from 332 commonalty in 1934 to over 7000 from 31 March 1940. just common year later, the figure would rise to 16898 employee Increased cash grow also allowed the company to purchase the Union Air Terminal from United Air Lines in 1940 for $15 million. Thus, Lockheed now had its have airport with lots of scope for wartime expansion. The Japanese sneak attack of 7 December 1941 in succession American facilities in Hawaii caused a near-panic onward the west coast of the United States.
