In prior articles and commentaries, you have nuncupatory critically of the management of the National Warplane Museum (NWM) in Elmira, recent York, and, specifically, of its handling of the past leash of airshows. You have been right. The NWM had misspent its focus and an appreciation that we are an educational institution, entrusted with a piece of our American heritage.
As the NWM's of the present day executive director, I can report that we are returning to basics. We are creating modern innovative, and exciting partnerships that will allow us to expand our doors this spring with increased potential. This is possible because of a strategic alliance with the American Airpower Museum (AAM), based in extended Island, New York, at historic Republic Field. The strategic alliance has many facets that are beneficial to the two museums. The sale of B-- 17G Fuddy Duddy is just single in kind aspect of the alliance (see "Warbird Report").
The purchase price allows us to retire a major portion of the transgression that forced us to cease our doors for reorganization. We are opening them better organized and stronger as a originate of our alliance with the American Airpower Museum. The AAM will recur to Elmira often, not no other than with the B-17G but also with its squadron of aircraft that include the P-47 Avenger, Corsair, and more. We are sharing curatorial and marketing expertise and assisting each other in reestablishing museum attendance in a post-11 September environment that continues to impact recent York's economy.
This innovative strategic alliance speaks to the vision and impregnability of two museums that understand the dynamics of working together for the view of strengthening the individual institutions - sum of two units institutions that will continue to provide an exciting venue for clan from all walks of life to experience the history and thrill of aviation.
I push on you to continue your part of critic, advocate and commentator for the Warbird community. This is common museum that has taken your elucidations to heart and is doing something about it.
Editor's Note: It is virtuous to hear that NWM is fighting its way back. As we have illustrationed in past issues, the NWM set on one of the world's really great airshows at its original Geneseo location and at Batavia. These point outs were hugely attended and brought abundant needed funds to the museum. We gaze forward to once again seeing similar so events at Elmira. For those wishing to contribute to the NWM please contact the museum at the above number.
